Best Canon DSLR Cameras 2019

Best Canon DSLR Cameras 2019

Canon is a popular brand amongst photographers and with cameras to suit all budgets and various users, there are plenty of choices out there.

The brand is, probably, best known for its DSLR range with cameras for amateurs and pros looking for the best specs as well as entry-level DSLRs here is a list of the best.

Canon Entry-Level DSLRs

Perfect for those wanting to venture into the world of DSLR photography but don't want to spend too much money, at first, or purchase a piece of kit that's too complicated to use.

Canon EOS 200D

Canon EOS 200D (4)

The Canon EOS 200D is a compact-sized DSLR with a reliable autofocus system, good image quality and reliable battery life (650 shots). There's also a good sized handgrip making the camera comfortable to hold and the user interface has been updated so it's easier to use. Plus, the screen is touch-sensitive so making changes is really easy. The Canon EOS 200D updates the EOS 100D with an improved 24MP sensor, better continuous shooting speed (5fps), excellent Live View focus, built-in wi-fi, Bluetooth and NFC. The introduction of a white priority white balance is also great for those who capture product shots.

For those who want a compact DSLR, the 200D is a winner and at just over £500, it's still reasonably priced.

Canon Mid-Range DSLRs

If you want slightly more controls without having to spend over a thousand £ on a camera, these DSLRs are the perfect choice for you. These types of DSLR give the enthusiast photographer more options/control such as interval shooting and added autofocus points.

Canon EOS 77D

Canon EOS 77D DSLR (21)

The Canon EOS 77D is a is perfect for the enthusiastic photographer wanting direct control over the shutter and aperture speeds in manual mode. It's also a big improvement over the 760D offering a better battery, improved design/handling and an updated user interface. Focus speeds are good, continuous shooting has been improved and the ISO range extended. Plus, the most important point of all, the camera delivers great image quality.

To get the best out of the camera, prime lenses are recommended but with such a wide range of affordable lenses on offer, the 77D is an excellent choice for any photography enthusiast.

Canon EOS 800D

Canon EOS 800D (3)

The Canon EOS 800D offers an impressive set of features and, most importantly, great image quality. There's a new user interface which improves that found on the EOS 750D and continuous shooting speeds, as well as the ISO range available, have also get the thumbs up. Other areas that have seen changes, for the better, include handling, design and focus speeds.

There are no command dials which is a shame but overall, it's a DSLR you won't be disappointed with.

Canon Professional DSLRs

Professional DSLRs are designed for those who want a camera with superior build quality, more control dials, extra customisable buttons and, more often than not, bigger/better viewfinders. They, obviously, cost more money but you do get a lot of 'bang for your buck' with these DSLRs.

Canon EOS 5DS R

Canon EOS 5DS R DSLR (2)

We don't hand 'Editor's Choice' awards out every day but the Canon EOS 5DS R definitely deserved one thanks to the impressive levels of detail in its images and excellent price.

To get the best results from the camera, you are advised to ensure that you are using the best lenses available to you, and will also benefit from improving your photographic technique, which could include shooting with a tripod, ensuring shutter speeds are kept higher than usual, shoot in RAW...etc.

As for the camera, you get a 50.6-megapixel full-frame sensor, a low-pass cancellation filter for improved resolution, 5fps continuous shooting, fast focus/shutter response, high-quality 3.2inch screen and excellent build quality with weather sealing.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV (19)

The Canon 5D Mark IV found itself to be equally as popular as the 5D cameras that came before it and it's still desirable for many. With it, you get excellent image quality, 7fps continuous shooting, 30MP FF sensor, 4K Cine video recording, good noise performance, impressive focus speeds and excellent colour/white balance. We didn't come up with many negative points apart from the 3.2inch touch-screen doesn't tilt so if you can live without that, you're onto a winner with the Canon 5D Mark IV.

Canon EOS 5DS

Canon EOS 7D Mark II Front (1)

The Canon EOS 5DS is capable of producing excellent high-quality images thanks to an impressive 50.6-megapixel sensor. You'll notice that it's very similar to the Canon EOS 5DS R but the 5DS R is able to capture just that little bit more detail and take slightly sharper images but it will cost you more.

With the Canon EOS 5DS, you get a 50.6-megapixel full-frame sensor, 5fps continuous shooting, 3.2inch screen, customisable picture style options for better results, good AWB with white priority and excellent overall build quality with weather sealing.

Canon EOS 6D Mark II

Canon EOS 6D MarkII (8)

Another Canon Professional DSLR offering great image quality along with excellent battery life, good continuous shooting speed, a 26MP full-frame sensor and good noise performance.

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II, at the time of review, did everything asked of it while delivering great images at a decent price and now, at just over £1300 (at the time of writing), it could be a DSLR some are tempted by. However, if you're looking to shoot video, we'd suggest choosing a different DSLR as this one doesn't have a headphone socket and it can't shoot in 4K.

Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Canon EOS 7D Mark II Front (1)

Slightly older but still impressive in performance is the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. Continuous shooting speeds and focus are particularly notable and the weather sealing, as well as built-in GPS, make the camera 'bad weather ready' when travelling.

The 7D Mark II does use an AA (anti-aliasing) filter, and images can be a little soft straight from the camera. There isn't wi-fi built in, either, and the 7D Mark II doesn't have a touchscreen. However, there are a number of features that will appeal to the Canon shooter, particularly if action and high-speed shooting are important.

For those with an investment in Canon lenses, or for those that have a specific range of Canon lenses, the Canon EOS 7D Mark II is still a good choice.
